WiFi SPARK is partnering with Moneyhub, the market-leading Open Data and payments platform, to offer users of its hospital bedside entertainment units Open Banking as an alternative payment method.
The new partnership aims to simplify access to entertainment for patients recovering in hospital and remove barriers to vital communication systems for them. By offering Open Banking payments alongside other traditional payments methods, WiFi SPARK hopes to offer those in need a simpler, more intuitive way to access entertainment and help them through their recovery.
Previously, patients could pay for access using their credit card, by telephoning the call centre and paying over the phone or using a vending machine in the hospital to receive a code which is then used on the bedside terminal.
These traditional payment methods are not always suitable for patients staying in hospital, many may be without their credit cards, or unable to move around to access the vending machines.
Benefits of Open Banking for merchants and consumers include reduced card transaction fees, instant payment settlement, better user experience, and increased security. Consumers can simply pay through their banking app without fear of having their card details stolen and merchants can take advantage of this Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) compliant payment option. For customers in hospitals wanting to access WiFi SPARK’s services, this means a faster, more secure way to get access to entertainment.
After an in-depth selection process, WiFi SPARK chose Moneyhub as its open banking technology partner due to their standout engagement from the get go, dedicated support through implementation and access to their development team.
Sam Seaton, CEO at Moneyhub said: “We are thrilled to partner with WiFi SPARK by rolling out Open Banking payments to the healthcare sector. The work WiFi SPARK does is incredibly important for patient happiness, wellbeing and empowerment and we’re delighted to bring the benefits of Open Banking to patients requiring entertainment access.”
Pierre Ponsin - Chief Information Officer at WiFi SPARK said: “Technology has a vital part to play in our mission of delivering innovation to improve the quality of time patients spend in hospital. Our partnership with Moneyhub and the implementation of an Open Banking solution brings security, speed, and most importantly efficiency to the process of accessing entertainment.”
