Research

Sit yourself down and make a list of the items you know you want and the items you need, all of the retailers selling those items and their current RRP. This will help you to avoid spontaneous purchases and also keep track of savings whilst browsing the best Black Friday deals.

Try your best not to get suckered into Black Friday Ads and emails targeting you to buy their products. Sometimes this can be good as you can be given additional discount codes, however, stick to your list.

Set up your accounts

Head to all of the retailers on your list and create your accounts and add your bank and shipping details. Not only will you be the first to receive updates on sales or have early access to some company's secret sales, but you can also be sure of a fast checkout to avoid any stressful situations, especially when some websites have a countdown or only hold your basket for a certain amount of time.

This will also give you the opportunity to sign up for any free trials for free delivery, just make sure you cancel it before the offer period is up!

Wish Lists / Basket

Head to all of the retailers on your list and add the items you are keen on buying to your wish lists and/or baskets. This is the quickest way to view all of the sales on the items you are keen to buy.

Budget

Set a budget for how much you can comfortably spend on the items on your list. Start with a budget for the items you need. Stretching yourself to buy things you want just because they are at a cheaper price can be detrimental to your financial well-being. Try your hardest to stick within your budget.

Price Match

Check out which retailers on your list are willing to price match. There are a few companies that will match any price you see.

Keep an eye

Not all Black Friday sales are started, on Black Friday. Some retailers will start their sales one or two weeks early in order to get customers shopping with them before anyone else. If you see a price you are happy with, make sure to snap up the item quickly as big-ticket items such as TVs or white goods tend to sell out quickly.

Social Media

Follow your preferred retailers across your social media channels. Quite often, they will post secret promotional codes for those who follow them.

Click & Collect

If there is an option to click & collect your item, it is often free or significantly cheaper than paying for postage.

Cashback

Check out cashback websites, and make sure you use them where possible. Not only could you save even more money, but they may give more money off or build up points to use at a later date.

Credit Cards

If you have a credit card and you are comfortable with using it and repaying the balance, we’d suggest using this for big-ticket items. Purchases between £100 and £30,000 are covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
